CrossFit WOD Programming Update

We had been following a 3rd party program called Mayhem since last November. We were initially very pleased with this in November and December. However, there was a clear switch in their 1st quarter cycle (Jan - March) where there was less consistency on lifting cycles often feeling very random and a heavy focus on interval training with lots of built in rest. While we are not questioning their methods, we did not feel their 1st quarter cycle was conducive to our normal style of workouts that we were used to over the years. I decided to switch programs once their 2nd quarter cycle was released which resembled the 1st quarter style.

We have switched to a new program called Beyond Strength and Endurance, which we have been following for about a month now. This week begins a new lifting cycle - where the 3 main lifts through the week will be a version of a squat (either back or front), a version of a press (bench, push or strict), a deadlift and an Olympic lift on Saturdays. This program definitely has a more consistent schedule of lifting and a more traditional style of CrossFit WODs. However, the feedback we have received is that some of the WODs have felt too short and a few WODs seemed odd such as the plate hop WOD from last week.

We appreciate the feedback! We plan to stick with this program through this cycle but will be more considerate of WODs that are on the shorter side either adjusting to make longer or adding in accessory work that compliment the lift to fill class time. We will re-evaluate once this cycle is over and will look for feedback from both the staff and members.
