Congrats to Ramanpreet, our February CrossFit Member of the Month!


How long have you been doing CrossFit and/or FitCamp?

Almost 7 years but on and off.


What made you decide to try CrossFit and/or FitCamp?

I joined CrossFit primarily because a friend recommended it to me, highlighting its effectiveness and community spirit. Additionally, what really sealed the deal for me was the efficiency of the workouts. I love the fact that I can achieve the same, if not better, results from an hour-long CrossFit class compared to spending multiple hours in a traditional gym. The high-intensity, varied workouts not only save time but also keep me engaged and challenged.


What did you think after your first workout?

My first workout at CrossFit was nothing short of a reality check. Going in, I had thought of myself as being in pretty good shape, but the workout quickly humbled me. It included elements like the assault bike and burpees, which were far more challenging than I had anticipated. The intensity of the workout pushed me to my limits, and I ended up puking afterwards—a testament to just how demanding it was. Despite the physical toll it took on me, the experience was strangely exhilarating. The adrenaline rush from pushing through such a challenging workout was unlike anything I had felt before. It was this combination of challenge and the resulting rush of endorphins that got me hooked on CrossFit. It made me realize the value of pushing my boundaries and has motivated me to keep returning, eager to see how much further I can go.


What's your FAVORITE movement?

My favorite movements in CrossFit are heavy squats and snatches. I find heavy squats to be incredibly rewarding; they not only challenge my strength and endurance but also require a deep focus on form and technique. The feeling of successfully completing a set of heavy squats is unparalleled, giving me a sense of accomplishment and tangible proof of my progress. Snatches, on the other hand, are a true test of power, agility, and coordination. They demand a precise blend of strength and technique, making every successful lift feel like a significant achievement. The complexity and challenge of snatches appeal to me because they keep me mentally engaged and physically pushing my limits. Together, heavy squats and snatches encapsulate what I love about CrossFit: the constant pursuit of improvement and the satisfaction of mastering complex movements.


What's your LEAST favorite movement?

My least favorite movements in CrossFit have to be burpees and box jump overs, especially when they're combined. Burpees alone are a challenge, demanding a mix of cardiovascular endurance, strength, and agility that can be grueling. They're the kind of exercise that tests your resolve and physical limits in every rep. But when you pair burpees with box jump overs, it's a whole new level of intensity. The combination of these movements can feel like it's sucking the soul out of you. After powering through burpees, which already leave you gasping for air and your muscles screaming, adding the explosive power and precision required for box jump overs pushes you into an entirely different realm of fatigue. It's a brutal combo that challenges not just your physical capabilities, but your mental fortitude as well. Despite my aversion, I acknowledge that these movements offer significant benefits, from improving explosive strength to enhancing cardiovascular fitness. They represent the essence of CrossFit's challenge, pushing me out of my comfort zone and forcing me to confront my limits head-on.


Any advice for those just getting started on their fitness journey?

Embarking on a fitness journey is one of the most rewarding decisions you can make for yourself, but it's important to approach it with a mindset that marries motivation with realism. Understand that progress takes time, and there will be challenges along the way. Start by setting achievable goals that inspire you, but also recognize your current limits. It's not about perfection; it's about making incremental improvements and celebrating each step forward. Remember, everyone's journey is unique. Avoid comparing your progress to others and focus on your own path. Incorporate activities you genuinely enjoy, as this will help you stay committed in the long term. It could be CrossFit, running, yoga, or anything that gets you moving and makes you feel alive. Listen to your body and give it the rest it needs. Recovery is just as crucial as the workouts themselves. Nutrition also plays a key role in your fitness journey; nourish your body with foods that fuel your workouts and aid in your recovery. Embrace the community around you, whether it's a gym, a running club, or an online group. The support and encouragement from like-minded individuals can be incredibly motivating. Lastly, don't be too hard on yourself. There will be setbacks, but each setback is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger. Stay patient, stay consistent, and trust the process. Your fitness journey is not just about the physical transformation but also about building resilience, discipline, and a deeper understanding of what you're capable of. Welcome to the beginning of a healthier, stronger you.

Shoutout to the incredible coaching trio: Jena, Tylor, and Adam, and to all the amazing athletes in our CrossFit community! Jena, Tylor, and Adam, your depth of knowledge, patience, understanding, and humor bring out the best in us. You know each athlete's strengths and weaknesses, making every session not just a workout, but a step forward in our personal journeys. Your ability to motivate and energize us, even on the toughest days, and your commitment to explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind our workouts truly set you apart. I cannot express enough gratitude for having such fantastic coaches leading us. To my fellow athletes, from the young to the old, the pro athletes to the dedicated moms and dads balancing full-time jobs, kids, and countless other responsibilities, and to those overcoming health issues or personal battles—your strength, resilience, and support inspire me daily. The diversity of our stories and challenges enriches our community, creating a supportive and motivating environment that I am incredibly proud to be a part of. Your dedication and willingness to support one another make our community truly special. Together, coaches and athletes alike, we've created an environment that's not just about fitness but about building a family. The energy, the laughs, the shared struggles, and triumphs make our community one I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Thank you all for being such an integral part of this journey. Your contributions, big and small, shape our community into a place of growth, support, and inspiration. Here's to many more workouts, achievements, and moments of camaraderie.
